The term was derived from a Latin expression studia humanitatis which means in addition to humanity. In the 15 century, it became a course study which encompassed moral philosophy as well as poetry and history. In ancient Greece, humanities were used as a basis of a broad education for its people and later on started to be recognized as the ultimate discipline of study instead of practice which shifted it into areas associated with literature and history.
