This invasion was meant to trigger an uprising that would overthrow Fidel Castro who had seized power in 1959 through an armed insurgency. With the help of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Eisenhower administration initiated a plan that involved training and funding a group of Cubans who were not in support of Castro’s policies and had thus fled the country. However, when J. F. Kennedy took over, he and his advisors failed to analyze the situation critically. Even though the invasion failed, Kennedy and his team learned from their mistakes (Janis, 1982). Groupthink has a detrimental impact on the group or the entire institution as a whole. For example, it leads to adverse decisions and a lack of creativity among the members.
