Community Relationship with Police

Document Type:Essay

Subject Area:Criminology

Document 1

Research has shown that crime dramas do not affect the attitudes of the public towards the police (Edwards 81). However, news and reality programs elicit discussions by community members and this results in most people especially those in African American communities perceiving the police as incompetent and incapable of enforcing the law within the community. As a result, the community members cannot collaborate with the police so that community policing is achieved. In the absence of media, there would be little information concerning police misconduct in the hands of the public and as a result, community members would view them as agents of law enforcement. Consequently, the community would collaborate with the police in community policing; thus, resulting in enhanced security. Work cited Edwards, Bradley.
