It can be done either by one person, and this is referred to as Single-rescuer CPR, or by two persons, also known as two-rescuer CPR (Jang et al, 2018). CPR-Infant The first action is to ensure a safe scene and recognize presence of cardiac arrest. Check for responsiveness and safety, gasping, and breathing. Then, check the pulse by putting two fingers over the artery (brachial) as the third and index finger are placed between the shoulders and the elbow. If there is no breathing and pulse, start CPR (Blatti, 1998) CPR-1 rescuer Start compression by putting two fingers a few centimeters inferior to the nipples of the infant, which is the central part of the chest. Check for responsiveness and safety, gasping, and breathing.

Then check the pulse by putting the 3rd and index figure at the neck over the carotid artery or at the interior side of the wrist inferior to the thumb. Depending on the child’s size, either one or two hands could be used in CPR. If no breathing and pulse, send for help as you start CPR (Thygerson, Thygerson, Gulli & Piazza, 2012) CPR-1 rescuer The hand should be positioned distally on the sternum and interruption time should not exceed 10 seconds while doing the CPR. CPR compressions should be at least 5 cm (1/3 the chest’s depth). Before an AED is used, the recipient should be identified well. A child, between 1 and 8 years, should be handled with pediatric pads. In case of an adult or a children above 8 years, a standard pad should be used and should not contact each other.
