In 2010 Toyota faced intense criticism from U.S. consumers and politician for the way it dealt with a massive recall in the United States. Many blamed the intensity of the criticism on cultural differences between the U.S. and Japan and how such issues are dealt with in each culture. In response to the realization that cultural difference may have led to unnecessary criticisms of the company, Toyota implemented a new program, “Communication Across Cultures”, for its public relations executives.
Conduct an Internet search using the phrase "Toyota recall 2010 and culture" to find sources to learn more. In your essay discuss the cultural differences that existed and give your opinion if these cultural difference did indeed result in unnecessary criticism of the Toyota. Additionally, identify the goal of the “Communication Across Cultures” initiative and state whether or not you feel it will help alleviate future issues of this type. Support you work with the sources you found on the Internet (see below for how to do so).
Your submissions must be a minimum of three paragraphs long and include an introduction (1 paragraph), body of support (1+ paragraphs), and conclusion (1 paragraph). Each essay should be supported by research from the Internet (minimum 3 sources) and you will provide the authors name and a URL for each source at the end of your work. You will be graded on the following criteria:
1) Accurate use of sociological concepts to address the question.
2) Critical thought in addressing the question.
3) Selection and use of sources in addressing the question.
4) Organization and logical flow in addressing the question.
5) Use of the English language at the collegiate level in addressing the question.
How to cite and document your sources:
In the body of your work cite sources using simply authors last name in parentheses at the end of the sentence. For example if I were to cite myself at the end of this sentence I would do it by ending my sentence with (Lane). If no author is given then use the name of the website. For example an article on how to train your puppy from the website "Perfect Paws" would be (Perfect Paws).
Then at the end of your essay provide the author's name and the URL of the source so your instructor can find the source you used. Thus, if you were citing this page I am creating right now you would use:
Lane, Leon https://elearning.kctcs.edu/webapps/assignment/execute/manageAssignment?method=showadd&content_id=_19245251_1&course_id=_493391392_1
If no author exists use the website in place of author as follows:
