Therefore, this paper will succinctly provide an analysis of Robert Wood Johnson work in initiating changes as well as advanced health for the nursing professionals. Importance of IOM The primary importance of the IOM to the nursing profession is the provision of insightful recommendations that benefit the unique profession segments and the general nursing profession. The Committee came up with an initiative that was geared towards solidifying the nursing workforce. Since the profession does not operate in a vacuum, the report acknowledged the need to understand the contributions of all the stakeholders wherein nurses are included. The understanding will help in the development of a health system that encompasses the ideas and contributions of the entire healthcare workforce. The implementation, in this case, involves the four key IOM recommendations. The coalitions, all born from the Campaign for Action initiative are found in all states and bequeath the states the role of taking the recommendations to the community. The community is engaged at state levels which make it easier to oversee the implementation and account for the progress. Moreover, since each state has its unique health care system needs, the state-based action coalitions play the major role of meeting such unique needs across different states. The state has made it possible for the students to access their BSN education at the community’s level through collaboration between the Metropolitan State University and the community colleges. This is a positive move towards advancing the nursing profession in Minnesota. The state of Minnesota has also embarked on an initiative to remove APRNs obstacles to Full Practice Authority. The state adopted a Bill (Minnesota Bill 511) that was presented to the Senate to help in reducing health care costs as well as ensuring increasing the accessibility of health care for the consumers (Campaign for Action, 2014). The state, in order to increase the number of BSN students, should provide education incentives, financial aids and initiate forums to encourage nursing students to undertake their degrees. This will not only meet the state’s 2020, 80 per cent goal but also improve the quality of health care in line with the recommendation of IOM. References Institute of Medicine.
