Democracy encourages equality and no discrimination at all. Everyone is given an opportunity regardless of their gender, race, and religion. In this system, the power of the government is limited, there is a review of the judicial system, the country is sovereign and we can also talk about federalism and power separation. There is a lot about this that we shall be looking at as we progress. The United States of America is a federal country. Samuel(1978). According to Stepan(1999), Each American citizen is under the law of their respective state, city, county and the federal government. The states are independent of one another. So, in a political sense, for example, state governor would consult his people and get their views before making a decision that will ultimately affect them.

Citizens are allowed to freely socialize and take part in economic development projects. It also encourages peaceful co-existence such that if you cannot live in one state you can always move to another where the rules are favorable. When it comes to voting and politics, federalism improves the competition and brings to table different players who can challenge one another with the interests of the citizens in their mind. Holding on to power is directly related to how the politician serves the interest of their constituents. Their reputation, discipline, and achievements are some of the parameters used to vet the office holders to give them another chance or to get them out. Samuel(1978) Federalism, through its systems of power division, has been effective in ensuring that at least one has a chance of electing their preferred leader whether from the local or presidential.

This third-way route, as is the case in many countries across the world, would greatly benefit our democracy. Another great course of action would be to lobby for financial reforms to create a level playing field for all. This will break the existing tendency of the wealthy trying to influence elections through their donations and in most cases even decide on their preferred candidate. The big money influence I am sure is something many people would agree with me has been constraining our democracy and it is high time we did something about it.
