Unemployment also has negative effects on the people including loss of self-esteem, poverty due to lack of income and unrest due to crimes and related conflicts (Katz, 3). Economists explain that there exist many types of unemployment but the two most common categories are voluntary and involuntary unemployment. Voluntary unemployment occurs when one willingly leaves their job or refuses to pick up a job in the hope of finding a better job. Involuntary employment, on the other hand, occurs when a person is unable to find a job or has been laid off or fired and has to look for a new job. Other types of unemployment include cyclical unemployment which is unemployment resulting from a decline in demand due to business cycles.

” According to the article, many youths in Italy have shied away from previously valued handwork and shifted their attention to other occupations such as Engineering (Ebeke, Christian and Greetje, 15). A number of Roman high school students are watching Fendi artisans as they made leather products such as bags, shoes, watches, and furniture. The students observed that the artisans made very fashionable products using their artisan skills. The prices tags for the craft products were very astonishing for the students with some of the bags priced at more the 20,000 euros depending on the time and material used. The price for one of these bags was according to one of the students, enough money to last him a year. ” This article also identifies a lack of enough alternative training opportunities for Youths who want to learn Craft and venture into handwork.

Although there existed such training programs in some parts of Italy, they are not available in every region and this can barely serve the need for apprenticeship. Moreover, this article also talks about the need for community colleges in every region to eliminate the expense of going to learn the craft in private schools. Notably, this will help to bridge the gap between craft studies and more formal academic work (Restrepo, 3). Chiefly, this articles has helped understand youth unemployment in Italy and also given recommendations for the youth to help them get jobs more easily in the future by refocusing on the craft.
