Subject Area:Social Work
Human interaction has been made easier and convenient by the internet and social media. To a great extent, it has given introverted people a platform to express themselves and benefit more even in terms of business and international relations. Communicating with family and friends is now possible irrespective of the geographical differences due to the internet and social media. Cyberbullying is the negative, intentional comments or actions that are directed to people in social media with the intention of hurting them. It is one of the adverse effects of social media, where the perpetrators go to the virtual world and post hurtful things to people, and less can be done to them because of their anonymity. 1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM There are multiple causes of the cyberbullying, for example, need for revenge, boredom, peer pressure, power hunger, lack of empathy and for the sole reason of never getting caught.
This study will focus on internet usage as a reason for cyberbullying and ways that it can be coped with to make a positive change. The effects of bullying leave more damage to a person's emotions and psychological well-being. Their productivity in day to day activities is interfered with, and worse thoughts of suicide creep in. Therefore, it’s important to understand how internet usage contributes to increased cases of virtual bullying. & Salame, W. Cyberbullying: Review of an old problem gone viral.
