Programs can involve any combination of free weights, bands, machines, or body weight activities. They can be performed at a light weight/high rep or heavy weight/low rep volumes, simple or compound exercises, with a partner or by yourself. An increasing trend in strength training is the idea behind "Functional Training" (i.e. Bootcamp) and "High-Intensity Training" or HIT (i.e. CrossFit).
