Title of the Paper: Student’s Name: Course Name: Instructor’s Name: Date: Technetium -99m Introduction The Technetium -99m is one of the radioisotopes that is used to particularly image the skeleton and heart muscle. It is however used also used to image the brain thyroid lungs in reference to perfusion and ventilation. Other human organs and parts used to image via use of Technetium -99m include the liver the spleen the bone marrow heart blood pool gall bladder and the kidney in reference to its structure and filtration rate (Zolle 2007). The aforementioned aspects illustrate that radioisotopes and in this case the Technetium -99m has widespread medical values. Despite these benefits Technetium -99m also has environmental impacts. Technetium -99m contains chemical compounds that form radioactive has a 1 in 1000 lifetime risk of developing into solid cancer (Zolle 2007). The radiation in the patient is carried for a few days which increases the patient’s probability of exposing others to second-hand radiation. If this level of Technetium 99 is administered on younger patients the risk of developing solid cancer increases. However when administered on older patients the risk significantly reduces. Order Description:
In medicine, radioisotopes are bonded with chemical compounds to form radioactive tracers, which are then injected into the patient's bloodstream. The radiation emitted by the tracers allow doctors to obtain images of organ systems, facilitating early and accurate diagnosis of disease. However, to avoid radioactive contamination, care must be taken in the storage, use, and disposal of this material. Consider the costs associated with its use. Choose a radioisotope to describe and evaluate its environmental impact against its benefits to society. Evaluate and report on your findings. All information and relevant data are to be included in a logically sequenced manner. In your writing, it is important to use appropriate writing style, tone, and scientific terminology. Conduct your research using reliable, peer-reviewed and industry sources and ensure that sources listed in your reference list are directly related to information presented in your paper. Use the appropriate referencing style for science to cite your sources
