The purpose of this essay is to critically evaluate the theme of love in the short story and discuss some of the actions that can be a result of love. To start with, Act 1 of the short story show what love can do to both friends and family, and it is essential since such situations still happen to date. For instance, despite the wealth that Roderigo possesses, he still complains about the secret marriage between Othello and Desdemona, the daughter of the senator. After he complains to his friend Lago, Lago then plans to use Othello to his advantage since he serves Cassio who is his senior at work. His plan rotates around the love that Desdemona has for Othello, and Lago believes that Othello is likely to do anything provided his love remains untouched.

Typically, he expresses regret for his actions of killing his wife and harming Cassio since he realizes that they are innocent. Despite the fact that it was already over, it can be understood that he was set up for all that he did though he committed murder. His acts are also defendable since he can’t imagine living with such thoughts for the rest of his life ad, so Othello decides to commit suicide. From the short story, it is also evident that love can result in tragic endings and shift of power within the society. This is demonstrated after Lago has planted the handkerchief gift in Cassio’s lodging. Lago understands this and he uses love as a stepping stone to achieving his evil goals of grabbing power.
