Finally, authentic leadership is viewed as one that is nurtured with time (Northouse, 2018). Authentic leadership is effective because of the idea that leaders focus on the greater good of their teams rather individual aspirations. Martin Luther King is a good example of who authentic leadership can be drawn from. This is because Martin often stated that he had a dream for the Americans and this is an indication that he served with interests of the people at heart, and not just his personal interests (Purdon, 2017). Authentic leadership puts more focus on the experiences of life and the meanings that leaders attach to those experiences. This type of leadership is characterized by power-oriented individuals who are exploitive in nature (Northouse, 2018). Such kinds of leaders have twisted moral values that form the basis of their actions that aim to bring transformation.
