Electoral college system essay
” The president is chosen by persons referred to as the electors. These electors are chosen based on the number of representatives that a state has and they vote for the opinion of the majority of the voters in their states. Currently, there are 538 electors across the US out of which one wins the presidency if he manages to garner 270 votes. To enable the electors to get the public opinion, a popular election is conducted first followed by electoral votes. A popular election entails the citizens voting for their presidential choice. One of the recent scenarios is that of President George W. Bush. He had garnered fewer votes than his opponent, Al Gore in the popular election but proceeded to get 271 electoral votes compared to his opponent’s 266.
