Education on GMO as well as its awareness is vital because people need to understand the health implications of consuming genetically modified food thereby finding themselves in a position to make better decisions. In the United States, there are many agricultural schemes that are financed in order to improve the productivity of the nation. These schemes are put in place without much consideration of the people and the politics behind it because most of the times it is all about trying to increase food production or attaining political mileage by the people who initiate the schemes (Yang & Chen, 2016). The dynamics that are in place during decision making are usually based on food security because America has a large population to sustain but the agricultural activities are not practiced by a majority of the people.

Other crops that are not food usually end up being genetically modified because of decisions based on economic gains and not necessarily considering the well-being of the people (Bratspies, 2013). This was because the United States believed that the genetically modified is no different than the conventional food, and therefore, allocated similar standards of inspection. This explained just how much America was willing to prove the rest of the world that there is no harm in consuming products that came out of the process of genetic engineering. However, with the European Union complaining about the standards of food that member states consume and supply, the United States has enhanced, its regulation measures. It is important to note that America monitors the activities concerned with GMOs through various bodies that are mandated constitutionally.

The United States Department of Agriculture together with Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency have teamed up to ensure that the food that comes out of the processes of genetic modification of organisms is perfect for consumption by the public. The emergence of the scientific research information regarding GMOs instilled a general opposition of genetically engineered products. Italy has been implementing the regulations of the European Union concerning GMOs for a number of decades now. However, the in the recent past the legislation in Italy prove that the public is gradually accepting these products. The shift is turning from general public refusal to a perspective of wanting the genetically engineered food to get its way into the markets.

It is important to note that is only having on the basis of regions because the regional governments in Italy have been constitutionally mandated to establish independent regimes regarding GMOs. Similarly, the genetically modified crops that are produced with toxins in them could be a problem in the near future. This is because, with time, pests gradually develop resistance towards the toxins. Eventually, such crops will not be able to resist the wrath of pests anymore. This will lead to the issue of food insecurity, which in the first place is feared by countries like the United States that base their acceptance of GMO products on the excise of food security. The same case happens with viruses whereby they develop resistance after a certain period of time hence rendering the genetically modified crops lifeless.

This essentially has severe effects when consumed by a human being. It is vital to note that the dioxin causes chloracne skin disease. Dioxin also causes liver malfunctions thereby endangering the life of the affected persons. The essence of outlining the effects of dioxin is to explain the pollution threats that growing genetically modified crops has, to the lives of the consumers of such products. The contamination of areas by this chemical can be disastrous because if people are to grow genetically modified crops all over the world with an excuse that they are trying to fight food insecurity then a lot of people’s lives will be in danger. Conclusion Stricter standardizations seem to be the best way to handle the cases of GMO products.

The importance of tightening the standards for detecting genetically modified goods is that the quality of the products shall increase significantly. Once the people owing the biotechnological laboratories realize that there are strict rules to follow regarding GMO products, they will enhance the processes that involve modifying the crops, for example. This is because that farmer who depends on such a company is needed to grow crops that will demonstrate high levels of compliance with the standards. The European legislation through the Institute of Health and Consumer Protection has seen the process of validating the methods of detecting GMO continue in Italy. Erickson, Britt E. Detecting genetically modified products in food: Variability in methods creates a strong need for international standardization of GMO testing.
