Medical Sciences Master Personal Statement

I was shocked to find out that in the U. S. , instead of matriculating directly into the M. D. program, as I would have in France, students needed a bachelor’s degree first. After graduating from the University of Delaware, my life suddenly changed in a drastic and dramatic manner, which showed me how much I wanted to become a doctor. Thus, I went to Guinea in summer 2015 and found out that my mother had stage 4-breast cancer, on my arrival I found her at home lying in her bed incapable of sitting up by herself. Moreover, she had reduced in weight that her face told me she was in a terrible condition; our separation for 6 weeks, seeing her in this condition showed me how fast the human body could deteriorate.

Therefor she was admitted; I remained by her side during her illness at the hospital in Guinea. Little did I know, doctors misdiagnosed her with malaria and typhoid fever, which is life-threatening diseases and curable. Moreover, this made me think if they were able to detect cancer and give her the right treatment. Then what if I myself had recognized the symptoms? Then it really hit me. Therefore, I want to contribute to change that. Furthermore, help as many people from problems I faced and stop losing people lives because of improper care and lack of basic equipment. Moreover, help to save lives if possible and this is why I have done all the training so far. However, my dad died of respiratory failure due to a lack of oxygen in a Hospital in Guinea.
