The paper will be comparing American and Australian correctional facilities types of systems, management, and population as well as security levels. Secondly, the essay will point at the foreign correctional system when compared to that in America. Comparison between America and Australian Both American and Australian countries are experiencing high incarceration rate in their prisons due to increase in crime levels. In comparing their correctional system, they possess similarities as well as differences regarding the correctional system, how they are managed, number of prisoners as well as the risks in the prisons. Correctional Systems and Facilities The systems for corrections in both countries possess a lot of similarities perhaps due to the matching constitution that is based on regionalism. The high court of Australia is headed by the Chief Justice as well as other six judges. The federal courts are made up of 40 judges where all the judges are expected to retire at 70. However, in the federal courts, two judges are appointed for life. The conditions of the prisons in Australia have been managed with high respect for human dignity and lives. Populations Regarding population United States records the highest numbers of prisoners in Jail that are estimated at 2121600 total numbers in jails. The country has registered the highest incarceration rate that recorded to be around 655 per 100000 people according to figures taken in 2016. The country has in recent times recorded the highest number of global prisoners with statistics depicting that out of the 10.

35 million prisoners the country accounts for around 21% of them (Kaeble, Glaze & Tsoutis & Minton, 2016). On the hand in Australia, the incarceration rate is deemed a bit lower which is estimated to be around 160 per 100000 as per the statistics that were recorded in 2016. However, based on statistics almost half of the people that are released in the United States go back to prison within three years. This is because the correctional systems are more concerned about the punitive approach rather than correction action. The country should borrow ideas from foreign countries like Australia to come up with policies that are aimed at ensuring that offenders are assisted in mending their ways before release rather than focusing on punishing them. The effectiveness of the United States Systems I think United States systems is the best when compared to other foreign ones such as Australia.
