He had a great influence on the way women were viewed in the 19th century. During her times, women were not considered to be equal to men and were often socially, politically, and economically oppressed. In the century, feminist had no much platform top expresses their discontent in the social systems. Feminist authors, therefore, chose to express their feeling about the society through literature and their social lives. Jane Austen used the available platform to advocate for equality between men and women in the society. Jane Fairfax is in similar condition and although she sympathizes with her, she could not help her given that she even had no control over her own future. Perry (187) notes that Austen blatantly exposes numerous ways through which the women on the social status of Jane can use to get out of their social status.

She uses Emma as a strong and relatively strong character to indicate the methods that the women can use to fight for their rights in the society that is filled with the oppression of women. Emma enjoys a lot of freedom that the women of those times had no access to. She has a liberty to do what she likes. Martin and rather fight a greater match. The main idea was to express that the women have the right to either accept or reject marriage proposals. The women, therefore, should not marry because of the pressure and expectation of the society but because of their own will. Emma later marries Mr. Knightley, not because of the pressure of the society but an expression of love.
