Social Construction of Race

Besides, there is distinctive classification of the human breed that is shared globally. When an individual could be identified as white in Europe, the same individual may be considered colored in America, or Asia. Therefore, race is a social construct that is pegged on the social integration of competing ideals that have been in existent throughout the history of humanity. The concept of racial identity has been changing over the years. In the USA for example, the period up to 1790 classified Irish people as “colored” and they were to be treated as non-citizens (Conley, 326). At this point the question would be, what has changed now? Or is one less of a Whitman when they involve with a person of color? This can be explained in the context that while this individual may be White, their lifestyle does not align with the social expectations of a Whiteman and so they lose their identity and privileges.
