This era was marked by four major factions and categories as section of the social or communal arrangement: Nobility, Middle Class, the Upper Class (working), and the Lower Class (working). The individuals within these groups were anticipated keep up within their classes and even a slight alteration to another class was deemed severely offensive. Within each of this category, the women’s roles remained unaltered. Of course, society expected to live highly limiting lives with the existence focused primarily on their spouses and children. a. On the other hand, the lower working-class women comprised of professions such as tradeswoman in which these women sold their services and goods to individuals of their villages and worked or cleaned homes to the upper mid-class females (Dickens, 2013).

The lower-group females were completely poor and they did menial jobs like prostitution, laboring and servants, and all other activities involving physical efforts. The lower class females primarily remained without partners for the rest of their lives since they were in huge numbers relative to their male counterparts. Abuses of Women Throughout the Victorian era, women were considered a sign of cleanliness and purity except when they are experiencing their menstrual cycles. The Victorian woman’s body was handled like a temple because of which they were not engaged in pleasurable sex or vigorous activities. Most incidences of the domestic violence during the Victorian era were influenced by alcohol. However, wife beating was present in every class, not in the lower classes only, as stated by Charles Dickens (Gorham, 2016).

Dickens was a Victorian writer during the nineteenth century England, and he wrote about the continuous “wife beating” incidences during that period. He gives various examples of women who were married with top government officials but were still victims of domestic violence. In essence, wife beating was a common incidence during this era, and it was experienced by women from all of the classes. For instance, Islam religion is still restricting the rights and freedoms of their women. Girls and women of this religion are compelled to have sex with and even marry the males that they do not like because of the arranged marriages’ tradition (Cosslett, 2017). The Muslim women do not have a say regarding their marriages and they are not allowed to file for divorce when they are not happy in their unions.
