HD’s father’s history of hypertension hence puts her at a risk of developing the same also considered she shares similar environmental conditions with the father and works as a receptionist a physically non-involving job. The modifiable risk factor for HD is a sedentary lifestyle. Being a student and working in a less physically involving job, HD requires to involve in exercise to mitigate the high risks for hypertension. This assignment aims to explore the risks of hypertension in the patient and identify an evidence-based teaching plan to enable the patient to adopt a healthy lifestyle to minimize risk for hypertension. The development of hypertension also involves exposure to certain environmental and behavioral risk factors (Singh et al. From the information on her health history, HD works as a receptionist and spend much time studying which is not physically involving hence increasing her risk for developing hypertension due to the sedentary lifestyle. From the health history as per the Milestones assignment, HD reported a total cholesterol level slightly below 200, although not within the range for concern, there is increased risk of hyperlipidemia due to familial history of hyperlipidemia which would increase her likelihood for hypertension (Nelson, 2013). Physical activity involvement is the intervention of choice for HD in a bid to reduce her sedentary lifestyle that is occasioned by her long sitting time de to her engagements at work and school.

Physical activity has been linked with reducing the detrimental health implications associated with prolonged sitting. I will instruct the patient to begin the intervention by establishing a specific time each day for exercise and incorporating bits of moderate intensity exercise at least three days a week into her routine exercise regime. I will encourage her to identify a team of friends or family members with whom she can plan and be involved with during the exercise to ensure support and enhance adherence to her exercise schedules. To help the patient understand the interventions better, I will provide her with summary handouts of the research articles that support physical exercise as an important intervention in reducing cardiovascular risks. I will also provide her with links to websites that provide health information on exercise and diet such as The American Heart Association website links and Very well Health.
