Essay on Fallacies
As an argumentative person, some of the fallacies that interest me include an appeal to authority, appeal to ignorance and false dilemma. Applicability of the fallacy is predicated on the context of the argument (Finocchiaro 13). Appeal to authority is a fallacy that occurs when a person submits to the assertion of another individual by virtue of that person holding or wielding power in the society. For example, if you are an ardent fan of movie star like Will Smith, and you happen to meet him on the streets of New York, he tells you that he keeps dinosaurs in his private zoo, and you believe him without researching on the existence of dinosaurs, then you are a victim of appeal to authority fallacy.
