The research was conducted between the years 2005 and 2009 on first-year students from different background and demography. The author of the article evaluates students' levels of happiness or lack of it and how it affected the students' academic performance. Erin has a long career in the psychology field has published many powerful articles in the same field. This article was published in 2016 with an aim of enlightening psychologist, universities, students and all the stakeholders in the related fields on the relationship between GPA and happiness using scientific evidence. This analysis will include the persuasion skills used by Erin in the article focusing on the use of ethos, pathos, and logos as used in the article. In another instance, the author has appealed to the emotions of the reader by referring and likening the results from another study conducted by daily diary in a move to support her arguments.

When the author is discussing her points, she mentions the strength of the study by highlighting that the GPA results were obtained directly from the university registrar hence they were official documents and they provided an objective and official assessment. The fact that she obtained her GPA data from an official needless to say high ranking office in the university brings a sense of credibility of her research. Her effectiveness to communicate through the use of pathos has enhanced her message and content and simplified it for the reader. The use of logic is also witnessed in the article as the author persuade the reader. She has chosen to use brackets when giving examples and references in different shades. This is important because it assists the reader to have a free flow when reading and be able to follow on the main parts of the article.
