In particular, it means that there are certain schools that are expected to enforce the school uniform law upon its students. On the other hand, there are those that have not felt the need to enforce the rule based on the lack of direct relation with the associated aspects in the school and educational setup. In this case, there are certain institutions that have mostly focused on the need to have the school uniforms and those that have completely defied the rule based on the lack of association with the student behaviors and the academic performance of the students. Most of their actions are guided and directed by the research that has been conducted extensively on the issue as well as the government regulations that deal with the matter.

Nonetheless, there are those that also cite the effect of the strict rules on the originality and the creativity of the students, the need for the parents to purchase the uniforms that are equally expensive as well as the placement of extra rules on the students that make it difficult for them to cope. On the other hand, there are strong opposers of the uniform in school aspect who cite a number of issues that are related to the performance of some of the schools. These are mainly the private schools and the catholic schools that tend to put a lot of emphasis on the uniform issue and the public schools that have for a long time not been keen on effecting the uniform policy.

This is mainly because they appear to be taking additional measures to ensure that the behavior and the performance of the students is well maintained. Thus, they do not link the uniform issue to the performance in the schools. In addition, to the issue of performance that is related to the uniform issue they also cite a number of aspects that make it a challenge to implement the aspect of the uniform. It can be linked to the education system in England despite the varied structures since it is a representation of the more rigid ideologies of position and class. It is these aspects that are highly necessary in the school system and should thus be adapted for the schools in the United States to achieve their goals of education.

They also mention that in this regard, the school uniform forms part of the symbolic cultures that are placed to depict the imagery of class and the social class. Thus, it acts as the piece of culture that marks the symbolic boundaries that had and still have a lot of socioeconomic consequences in the region. It is evident that in the standardization of the school uniform, there is the symbolic rhetoric of the legitimacy in the authority. Nonetheless, those who are for the idea indicate that laws are important in the shaping of the activities of any institution. In particular, the idea of coming up with laws to make use of school uniforms in the school setup is considered in the form of rigid regulations that surround the clothing sector, as well as the grooming aspects and those that are rooted in the cultural behaviors emerges.

Thus, regarding the need to uphold the school uniform policy in schools Happel, in her book Ritualized Girling: school uniforms and the compulsory performance of gender discusses the positive effects the school uniforms have especially on the behavior of the girls. She states that the ability to maintain a uniform nature of activities is one of the ways through which girls in the schools are able to maintain a positive attitude and thus behavior. With this, she provides an encouragement for most of the public schools to embrace the uniform issue in order to be in a position to change the behavior of the girls in a positive manner and thus to achieve the intended results of the education system. In this sense, it was a major difference between what was worn by the undergraduate students who were expected to put on the long scholastic robes and the skull cap, which was a modified version of the cappa clausa that had initially been introduced by the Archbishop in England.

At that time, the slight difference came as a result of the permission given to the Cambridge students to wear a different type of cap although it was not supposed to have any forms of ruffles and a white shirt. Despite the varied perspectives that are held in relation to the two groups in relation to the school uniform policy, there are a number of agreements on the same. This is evidenced from the works of different authors who point out the important role that uniforms play in the education environment. In particular, they highlight the fact that the uniform is associated with many of the aspects in the society to the extent that it forms the foundation of the society (Fussel, 2002).

Through this, he shows that the use of school uniforms does not have any positive effects in the school environment. According to Abi, the issue of the school uniform has become “ridiculously outdated” to the extent that they should be scrapped off from the school as they have “become a huge expose to the families” (3) as they come not only with the burden of having to buy but also the stringent rules that have to be followed. As indicated by Bailey (2006), the school uniform policy as a means towards reform is not bound to succeed since it is not linked directly to any activities in the school environment. In particular, in the same way, there are also many other reforms that have been placed and have done more harm since they do not have any direct effect on education.

The unnecessary pressure that is created by the school uniform issue can be seen from the statement that “uniforms are only found in the poor urban schools where poverty is a factor and less prevalent in the suburban schools” (Bailey 104). Therefore, in such cases, most of the time, there is the attempt to showcase the argument that is made from both sides in order to help the institutions and their organizations to make a decision based on their individual needs. In the article Effects of Student Uniforms on Attendance, Behavior Problems, Substance Use, and Academic Achievement Brunsma and Rockquemore (1998) evaluate the effects of using school uniform and the general reflection that it provides for the students. There is the provision of the consideration that the use of school uniform has and the effect that it has on the general behavior and performance of the students.

There are the different problems that are experienced in the school environment as well as the solutions that are offered through the use of the uniform. It is through this that there is the “comparative analysis of the public schools versus the private schools in terms of the student behavior and achievement if evaluated”. au/school-uniforms-need-to-be-ditched/ Bailey E.
