Instructions In a seven-to-ten page reflection paper, please address the following: Part I: From your perspective, define and discuss personal and professional relationships and personal and professional values. How are personal and professional relationships similar to each other? How are they different from each other? How are personal and professional values similar to each other? How are they different from each other? Be sure to synthesize and cite outside sources to support your definitions where appropriate. Use examples to demonstrate the similarities and differences between these constructs. Part II: Please choose any three of these variables to discuss: gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, race, age, culture, class, spirituality or religion, disability or personal values. For each variable, identify how the professional relationship might be impacted by similarities and differences between the client and social worker. Be sure to consider the impact from the perspective of both the worker and the client. For example what might it be like for the social worker if he or she were of the same race as the client? What might it be like for the social worker if he or she was of a different race from the client? What might it be like for the client to be of the same race as the social worker? A different race? Part III: Apply the discussion of at least two of the three variables discussed in Part II to yourself specifically; that is, to areas of your practice that may be especially sensitive to you. Discuss how similarities and differences between you and your client on each of these two variables might impact your and your client’s ability to form a therapeutic relationship and your ability to successfully work together. Use examples from potential practice situations to illustrate and explain how the variables could impact your practice. Part IV: Discuss how you might successfully work with some of the material (e.g., emotions and interactions) that might occur due to these similarities and / or differences you identified in Part III. During this discussion be sure to present a clear plan that outlines the different strategies you would use to address the impact of the variables discussed in Part III.
