This brings up the question, what is really the definition of a good man and are there any good men left in this world? This is the main question I will focus on. When the family encounters an accident during the journey, the Misfit turns out to be the one who stops to help them. The family at first does not recognize him until later when the grandmother came to realize the man helping them was Misfit and at the end he kills them all. I believe that if the grandmother had kept quiet and not mentioned when she recognized the Misfit, most probably, the family members would not have been killed the way they did. From the start of the story, the grandmother considers herself morally superior compared to other people most especially because she considers herself a lady.

She is always a selfish person who does not care about the rest of the family members. The grandmother at first sneaks her cat into the car without anyone noticing which is what eventually makes the family enter into an accident. She also misleads the kids about the mystery board and furthermore, she chooses not to be open when she committed an error about the area of the house. The grandmother shows that she is a selfish person when she begs for her own life and not her children’s or her grandchildren’s when the Misfit murders them. She cannot imagine the Misfit having to kill a lady like her. What’s more, Misfit himself recognizes and keeps insisting that he is not a good man which demonstrates his awareness that goodness is a possibility even if not meant for him (Browning 56).
