Laying awake the whole night shows the gender problems raised in this relation. Early we had a good relation between Sykes and Delia but this disappeared with time and replaced with poor treatment and lack of love. Shortly, after the wedding, Delia started to receive a severe beating from her husband. She sleeps for so long log due to the reflection of the things she is going through until her husband pulls the bed covers and this shows how she triumphantly rules her. This quote makes use of Jean Toomer to show how black women in the south were abused and seen to be like mule of the world, as they were to purposely work and thus acted as tools. The surrounding people viewed them to have no ideas of creativity and thus obsolete of intelligence and this made the little thoughts they had to be surprised.

The aspect of art developed was not part of their life but had to procure the assigned duties alone. Despite being bruised and bitten thoroughly by their masters they had creativity if given the chance to exploit the knowledge they had and become great artists. Walker examines the ability which women had if granted the opportunity. This means that even today women have their creativity and can still pass it from one generation to the other when given the opportunity to exploit it. For instance, the mother to the writer kept the creativity and passed it to her daughter who became a great scholar and writer. In this narration, we don't see any contribution which the father has done in her life or any other male individual but entirely centers on her mother alone.

The core roles and responsibilities of man he doesn't perform, and instead keeps exploiting his wife by allowing her to carry out many duties for the upkeep. In the beginning, the Delia is thinking deeply about the whereabouts of her husband who has not been around for long period of time. The key thing in this though is the horse she uses and the working equipment which the husband has gone with. This is an indication that the blacks are living high standard life and thus the blacks are a lesser being who keep serving them for their survival. From the analysis of the kind of job she is doing, we can understand we have different classes in this society. We have the white people whom the black woman is working for and thus the poor and the rich. Classism is seen in that we have people with high ranks and who are served by the poor in different ways. In criticizing the work which has been developed by the workers I consider a commentary based on the Negro education and the right ways to educate them despite the many challenges which they face. Considering the works of Walker in the story “my mother garden”, the analysis of the work into how the white people fail to recognize the need to give black slaves need to enjoy education as part of theirs.

This commentary offers a criticism of this work in that it addresses the ways to offer education to the blacks an instead to keep complaining about their failure (Toldson, 2016). The blacks have to avail themselves in attending schools for them to attain relevant knowledge. In this commentary, the inequality which Nora addresses comes about due to the lack black boys and girls living to the potential of their academic level. Through this, we can conclude that Delia could have sought the right remedy to rescue her husband. The death of Sykes is the beginning of peace and a good life for the remaining part. We can say the key themes in these two stories are classism, gender, and ethnicity. Various ways have been used to explain how they have been extended in the society.
