Aronow, 2013, p. Atherosclerosis can easily cause death through a heart attack. To understand this scenario much better, let's take a look at how the heart functions. The human body is like a factory, composed of several departments (organ systems made of organs) which depend on each other. The organizational units which make who we are made by these organ systems like the digestive system and the breathing system but one thing all these organ systems have in common is that they all need a constant supply of energy for their daily activities in form of oxygen and nutrients. Blood is being contracted by the heart's linings which is the endocardium or the ‘inner layer. ' The heart has got its valves which control the blood movement within.

The three main valves are; atrioventricular valve, pulmonary semilunar valve, and the aortic valve. The atrioventricular valve separates the ventricles and the atria, the pulmonary semi-lunar parts the pulmonary artery and the right ventricle whereas the aortic valve parts the aorta and the left ventricle. The heart contracts every second of our lives, these continuous contractions are caused by an electrical pulse which is being produced by the sinoatrial nodes (Cunyus, 1990, pp. They are the arteries, veins, and capillaries. The arteries carry away the oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body, the capillaries then does the work of exchanging oxygen, CO2, and waste with the body tissues and then the veins finalizes the work by transporting the deoxygenated blood from the body back to the heart so that it can be driven again to the lungs for oxygenation.
