Student's Name: Unit Title: Professor's Name: Date: Moral Virtues Introduction The author Aristotle argues for the following controversial conclusion: "Moral praise or blame can only be accorded to voluntary actions; involuntary actions due to force or ignorance of particulars occasioned by pain and regret to mitigate blame" He supports this premise with the following premises: (a) "People are only praised or blamed when they act voluntarily" and (b) "to act in ignorance is to be unaware". This essay will examine each premise in the light of objectors and then defend the author from these objections. The above conclusion is derived from the philosophy of moral virtues which is a topic discussed in the "The Nicomachean Ethics of Aristotle" For you to get a certain praise or blame it must be related to a done virtue which is related to a voluntary action. Therefore we can conclude that moral virtue but in accordance with virtue and the vices it is concluded as not to be moved but to be liable in an exact manner. Besides virtues are responsible for actions and passions to which those same actions and passions will always go together with pain and pleasure. To conclude all the above we are left with the dilemma of what actions should gain praise or blame with the force of them either being voluntary or involuntary. References Cropanzano R. Byrne Z. S.
