Moreover, the death toll is made worse by the death of Kim, a Korean orphan the children have been supporting and the hordes of other parents’ death. The children lightly endeavor to fathom the death of the thirty plants of the failed projects; the death of the snakes quite makes sense because the boilers were switched off during the strike and the other plant deaths that were subsequent to this. However, it is overly sad and it raises an existential question when there is a surge in the death toll and the life of a human being now become intimidated. To relinquish the somber and surreal mood, Edgar alleges the death was caused by bad luck and points out that the problem cannot be pegged on the school thus there was nothing wrong with the school.

The story points to the fact that it is not death that gives life, but it is a life that gives life to lives. The protection that the parents and even more the teachers give to the children can quite unreliable because the children have already been exposed to the reality of death and the fact that despite the caution that we might employ death will one day creep in. All the evidence to substantiate the hordes of death in the story elicits unanswerable questions who finally opt to focus on the essence of life and not death by pleading with the teacher to make life with the assistant teacher. When the Korean child dies, the children are encouraged to adopt another child but they become reluctant.
