This a clear indication that some of the crimes that are occurring every day can be reduced by ensuring those people who have mental illnesses are treated.When the number of individuals who have mental illnesses is reduced our jails will be decongested. This is because most people who have mental illness end up in jails. For example about 11.4 million people each year are booked into US jails whereby an estimated 745 000 people are convicted. About 16.9% of the people who are detained in the US the jail and have acute psychiatric distress. After thorough screening they are then diverted to the crisis units to receive special treatment. CHMP has attracted support from many sources and for this reason it is considered more important compared to Medicaid. To reduce problems associated with mental illness for example engaging in criminal activities it important to ensure that these people have access to decent mental health care. This can only happen if the required support in the provision of mental health care is offered by the government and the private sector.
