According to Farley et al. (2014), obesity is a condition of excess fat in the body associated with increased risks such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and other common diseases. There are many signs and symptoms associated with the obesity and intervention needs to be taken at an early stage to prevent the fatal disease. People need to start noticing these signs and symptoms and take action to increase the chances of living a happier, healthier, and more normal life. Obesity in Children Despite obesity being a common issue in all age groups, its increased prevalence among children is alarming. From the article, Wojcicki et al. (2010) point out that the Let’s Move advocacy campaign addresses the issue of obesity among children from the perspective of changing physical activities, nutrition, and eating habits of children by targeting individuals, neighborhoods, and larger communities.

At an early age of 3 years, most obese children start developing inflammatory markers that are closely related to heart diseases that may manifest later in life (Wojcicki et al. For this reason, to ensure effectiveness and success of the program, the Let’s Move campaign targets younger Americans; those under the age of 2 and preschoolers. One attribute of the campaign that makes the campaign effective is its prevention efforts that start as early as possible. Using the youths as an intervention strategy is also one way of getting too obese children. Children tend to follow the habits of their elder friends. Hence, cultivating good eating and exercising habit among the youths goes a long way in addressing childhood obesity. The advocacy campaign involves the development of skills, education, and attitude and behavior changes, with the main purpose of encouraging the youths to take action against obesity.

One attribute of the campaign that makes it successful is its use of the youth to address the health population issue. According to Cunningham et al. (2014), what a mother does while pregnant might contributes to her child being obese or not. When a woman gains more than a recommended amount of weight when pregnant, there are higher chances that the child will grow to be obese. As such, in addressing obesity from birth, this advocacy program will be effective in preventing childhood obesity.
