This experiment was conducted to determine the molarity of sucrose solution that is optimum for potato cells. To achieve this objective different molarities of sucrose solutions were used to incubate potato tubings for an hour and a half after measuring the initial weights of the tubings. After the incubation the tubing weights were also measured and the changes noted. At a concentration of 0.5M the potato tubing had no change in weight implying that the inside of the potato cell had equal concentration of 0.5 as the sucrose solution. At more than 0.5M the potato tubings reduced in weight by losing water into the sucrose solution that was the hypertonic solution to the potato. At less than 0.5m In this experiment there occurred some errors that could not be easily controlled such as the room temperature and this could have interfered with the accuracy of results in some way. Another factor might be the sugar concentration around the potato tubings that might not have been spread evenly and the potato tubings might have contained varying sugar level that affected the osmosis rate differently. I suggest that where possible to improve on the experiment use of a single source of uniformly distributed source of sucrose and controlled room temperature should be considered to increase the reliability of results.
