Culture and language have been given too much attention that the importance of materiality has dwindled in the recent past. Archaeologists and anthropologists have put so much emphasis of the representations of culture in recent remains that they have forgone to address the material ruins discovered. Articles by Atalay Barad Dawdy Ingold and Gonzalez- Ruibal present the issues surrounding contemporary past ruins and how much materiality has been forsaken in the contemporary archaeology and substituted with emphasis on Western culture. Archaeologists have to focus on the materials recovered from the recent past for them to understand such important aspects as the social life of the ruins. By so doing archeology will regain its true meaning ad present much social and cultural value. Thus these articles concepts since the author employs simple diction and smooth flow. In conclusion these articles demonstrate the need for incorporating materiality in contemporary archaeology. Traditional archaeology that only dealt with antiquity is short lived. Archaeologists should involve the local communities in their explorations since these are directly involved in these excavations. References Atalay S. (2006). I have attached readings, as well as a critique I received 100% on. Also, needs one "discussion question" per reading, at end of paper.
