As a result of stigmatizations that are related to having a sexual orientation that is not heterosexual, many people do not often share their sexual identity within their social settings. Together with the fact that they fear for discrimination as well as personal safety especially in employment and housing, the argument that in some cultures sexual activity is not accepted keeps people hiding. In an attempt to foster safety and equality, many men and women including me have upheld the risk of showing their visibility for the purpose of gathering together as well as increasing their power to gang against the discrimination that serves a great obstacle to them in various ways or forms. Presumably, whereas many issues in regard to privilege are now more recognizable in relation to an individual’s sexual point of reference, heterosexual people may still be biased hence not decided on whether or not gays and lesbians have the right to be protected against infringement and undermining of their rights and freedoms especially the ones that touch on their power and privileges (Morrow 17).

Since they have the ability to shape and determine public policy, the biased views and opinions can greatly and effectively compound the lack of privilege that exist in the society in different measures across various cultures. As such, I am able to comfortably interact with many people as I am always confident that the perception of other people over my sexual orientation is not bad. This in turn boosts my self-esteem hence placing me on a better chance of improving my ability level on my capacity as a student and an employee as well. It is prudent noting that since I came to college in the U. S, racial development models, I always consider ‘people of color identity model’ to be one of the racial identity development models I place myself in.

Arguably, this is because I am an international student hence, I always love evaluating and analyzing some of the minority groups especially in college. For instance, in America, the whites tend to think that blacks are disabled in one way or the other. This often makes them internalize discrimination against them and believe in it, hence becoming a part of it in the long run. However, this is often cultivated by the treatment such people receive from employment authorities and other platforms. For instance, research depicts that in job application, applicants with white-related names have a high possibility of being called for interviews as opposed to applicants with black related names or from Asian origin (Williams 173). I believe the ability of a human being should be judged by their character and not race, gender, or sexuality.
