While others choose to eat dairy products such as milk and poultry products such as eggs, many avoid such products as they originate from bodies of animals whether dead or alive. However, the eggs that they consume have to be free-range as a welfare objection on the issue of intensive poultry farming done all over the world. Winston, reporting for The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition says that the vegan diet leads to a deficiency of important nutrients in a human body such as calcium, vitamin B-12, vitamin D, and omega 3(Winston 2009.

Since vegans do not rely on fish and seafood for omega-3 fatty acids, they tend to show deprivation signs altogether. Some of these signs include; drying of the skin even when hydrated, dried up lifeless hair strands, insomnia-which is a deprivation of sleep, joint pain as well as the poor concentration that is characterized by fatigue. The omega 3 produced by plants and the insect-based fatty acids (ALA) have insufficient relevance to the human body and thus leaves only the fatty acids from fish and seafood as the main sources of omega- 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids are beneficial to human health as they enhance brain activity. Plant-based omega 3 is only absorbed into the body at a lower rate of 10 percent while the larger percentage is wasted as a stool.

Looking forward to solving the issue of vegetarian junkies take the form of holding seminars and conducting research so as to know the best possible foods to replace meat and other animal byproducts such as milk and eggs. This would educate vegetarians on a better diet combination which would not only eradicate the consumption of vegetarian junky but also ensuring knowledge on the right kind of food that would enhance protein levels in the body as well as other vital nutrients that are gotten from animal products. For example, seaweed is a good source of long chain omega 3 fatty acids. Also while nuts and other plant-based calcium is insufficient in a vegan metabolism, there are supplements that can come in handy with this issue of calcium.
