In this story, she gives a knowledgeable account of various doctrines that are found in the Quran and then goes ahead to further explain their meaning and significance. Being an Islamic expert, she has been able to discuss important themes and their historical interpretation and some important historical figures that helped spread the word of the Quran. The story of the Quran has been divided into five parts as follows. i. God speaks to humanity ii. In the first chapter of the book, Ingrid gives a story about an ordinary woman Khawla bint Tha‘laba living in the seventh century. During that time, most women were not highly significant in the community and their contributions and opinions did not matter, although there were some exceptions.

“…most women distinguished themselves by establishing and maintaining beneficial relationships with family, neighbors, and guests. Beauty, an energetic spirit, generosity, loyalty…” (Mattson 1) the respect a woman got during her own age depended on the relationships she cultivated during her youth. Khawla bint Tha‘laba was rejected by her husband by use of vulgar expressions. The book discusses the origin of Muslims and some of their traditions are discussed in this book. They are believed to be the decedents of Abraham from his son Ishmael with his concubine wife Hagar. After Hagar was sent away by Abraham and left in the wilderness without company and without enough water. After they ran out of the water she had carried with her, she watched her son tossing in agony.

She left him and walked across the mountains of Safa and Marwa for seven times searching for help. Various verses from the scripture have been stated for the purpose of giving further understanding of various beliefs. The other verses are stated and their meanings interpreted in a form that the reader can understand. An example is when she quotes (Mudaththir; 74:1–5) to explain the commissioning of Mohamed by God to come to earth and spread his message to the world. He was instructed to spread his warmth among people and warn them to leave their wicked ways and live in purity of faith. ‘O you who are wrapped up: Rise and give warning, and glorify your Lord, and purify your garments, and shun all idols!”11…’ (Mattson 34) she goes ahead to explain even the significance of the sound used during the recitation and its importance to the meaning of the words recited.

The use of these photos brings to life the history of Muslims and also serves in breaking the monotony of the reader. Mattson has used her chapters to illustrate the usefulness of Muslim aspects in real life. She tries, in her stories and interpretation, to show the reader how the Quran has identified aurally. In the book, she has given various examples of how the words of the Quran are used on different occasions such as the naming of the children and medicine. At the end of her book, Ingrid Watson has embraced the use of endnotes. The techniques used to deliver her message prove to be effective. Any keen and interested reader who takes their time to read this book will most definitely benefit from the message in the book.
