Leaders are instrumental in driving a company to success. Through different leadership skills in addition to characteristics, managers can lead their followers to success. Leaders play a fundamental role in ensuring all employees perform their respective duties and responsibilities. Activities of all workers are geared towards achieving the objectives and goals of a firm. Therefore, leadership entails the ability to influence people to work towards a particular goal. The approach encourages workers to work extra hard to steer a firm to success. In other cases where employees fail to achieve the targeted goals as well as objectives, they are punished. This theory is more of managerial theory and it is common in leadership models and also organizational structure. The managers and leaders use this type of theory challenge workers to propel a firm to success.

Leaders consult with the management team to set the goals and objectives of a firm before allocating each department and employee with a particular task or role. I used to play basketball and any time I win an award and fail to score As my mother would not buy burgers and take me to Hawaii for vacation. However, it is arguably irrelevant and also unexplainable on how people who have this type of leadership characteristics are not leaders in a particular organization or rather a group. The theory fails to give a more detailed explanation. I find this theory more applicable during my internship programme. We were a team of five interns in our department. While addressing all participants the CEO emphasized more on the importance of motivating employees to bring out the best from them. He focused more on how appreciation, salary, overtime and training can change stimulate employees. The CEO demonstrated the main traits of situational leadership since he was more knowledgeable and experienced. I was lucky enough to be part of the group that accommodated the CEO. He was interacting at a personal level with other members who were also more intellectual and the CEO adopted a democratic style. In our church group meeting, we always use a democratic leadership style. A church is one of the socialization agents. Creating a conducive environment that allows members to freely interact and exchange ideas is always one of the best practices that emanate from the congregation.

A team that is free from any hostility environment performs better. Similarly, ensuring group members perform with or without any form of supervision is on the best success strategies. During 2018’s winter, I took part in organizing a community outreach programme. The programme aimed to reach out to street children. Our group always target to visit, donate and encourage children living under such programmers. Therefore, giving hope to the orphans and other vulnerable children inspires us to raise funds and involve other people to be part of the movement.
