Today, smartphones are in increased use in healthcare for communication between doctors and patients. Appointments can be booked over the smartphones and also the doctors can offer other services to their patients through them. Similarly, the platforms in social media have created avenues where there are reduced healthcare services to patients. Patients benefit from these platforms in cases of emergencies. The use of technology, however, affects the patient’s rights to privacy, legal needs regarding the security of data, the ethics relating to a profession and confidentialities of clients. In the course of her duties, she constantly chats with her friend and suddenly some people were brought in who were involved in an accident. To her surprise, her favorite musician was the one brought under her care.

He was involved in an accident just after the concert. She could not even wait to hear all the information being given to her about the patient on the other side of the call. Surprised and happy, she took photos of him alongside his personal information and sent it to her friend. If any need arises that they would need to use a phone, then the landline in hospitals was the one to be used (Karasz, Eiden & Bogan, 2013). This reduces the chances of nurses using personal smartphones to leak patient’s information. There was also an appeal by the controlling body for the health ministry to raise hospital funding so that they can acquire the essential technology to transfer patient’s information without risk of leakage.

Most healthcare facilities usually apply the technologies that are not 100% secure and so chances of a patient’s private information leaking is very high. According to the scenario, so as to dilute the issue, the nurse involved in this non-professionalism should be punished. The fast sharing of information, be it texts or images helps the medics achieve successive goals (Epstein & Bequette, 2013). However, the use of smartphones does not lack some disadvantages. The use of smartphones is so addictive. Most social media platform encourages idle talks, such as in WhatsApp and even Facebook. Some Healthcare practitioners have found themselves not taking good care of patients simply because they are too busy using their smartphones. With these, then we can be sure that our healthcare industry is safe from breach of patient’s privacies.
