Thus, achieving good grades and maintaining a high GPA was always my target. However, in relation to the Stein, et al. , intelligence quotient only accounts for a small part of our success. For instance, while IQ measures our short-term memory, quantitative reasoning skills, and our working memory, EI measures our ability to express, identify, and manage emotions. On the other hand, Goleman defines five key components help in evaluating emotions. Our success is measured against specific IQ tests that are designed to gauge our ability to solve problem, reading and speaking skills. However, the significant determinants of success are emotional and social intelligence. Emotional intelligence springs into action more quickly than the rational mind measured by IQ. For instance in our group discussions, I have since understood that unless I control the emotional mind, conflicts will arise and which will impact negatively to our discussions.
