Africa for Africans Response Paper
Africa for Africans can also mean that Africa is a place that is meant for the native people who are Africans. I already know that most African countries have already achieved their independence and are sovereign states. However, those who are still living in the Diaspora especially in the America are not yet free. They are discriminated and segregated. I this article by Garvey, I expect that the author is going to inspire the Africans living far countries that are engulfed with segregation to arise and take action to salvage themselves from oppression and achieve their own freedom. He was annoyed by the low standards of living. The black people were living in the Ghettos in the South part of the country.
He was also inspired by the war for freedom that was taking place in other African countries (Garvey, p129). This is why he gave this speech to call people to take action for their own liberty and democracy (Garvey, p127). By this, he felt that the same spirit which the Africans had while fighting for freedom should be embraced by his audience. He is much concerned about the welfare of others while the people themselves seems not concerned or they fear to be intimidated for taking action. He states that only a quarter have joined hand in his movement. He is so radical that finally he is deported. I would like to know what happened after his deportation. I want to know if this silenced him or it made him to be stronger than before.
