The term was first applied in the late 19th century by a French historian known as Jules Michelet in 1855. This invention was later reestablished by a Swiss historian known as Jacob Burckhardt, in a book he wrote in 1860 known asThe Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy. (Burckhardt 1) For Burckhardt, the renaissance was an Italian marvel that was nurtured in the 15th-century talents of Botticelli, Leonardo, Brunelleschi, and Mantegna. Conclusively both Burckhardt and Michelet the renaissance was purely an Italian phenomenon that was based on the talents of artists. The historians believe that the renaissance was a representation of an erosion of religious authority. They then traded with Muslim traders who had valuables. This was the traditional form of a cheque. As time went by due to the increase in trade, Europe started to become more revolutionalized.

For instance, Venice had an elite class that desired to trade with contacts in the east that influenced the city’s architecture. The result of this increase in international trade is what revolutionized taste in Europe. Meaning they spoke of the time in relation to the few effects that affected them neglecting to speak of the minority class of the time, In fact, by the early1600s, there were a lot more literate people than in the1300. This was not solely caused by the Renaissance. I believe that the Renaissance period was a period of slow upward social mobility for people in the lower classes. Works Cited Charles, Victoria.
