When one really looks at it, Pareto’s work is not so radical. The paper clearly and expertly supports each point made with excellent results at the end. Facts and Revelations I was quite surprised to see that indeed liberalism and its attendant commitment to freedom and human rights is also a concept not based on any real rationality. When we look at it, masses of humans can be horribly wrong. Most criticism of Marxism is presented by liberals who believe they have a better system. However, the paper is objective enough to show that Marxism as it is is certain about what it needs to destroy but it does not know what it wants to build.

All these individuals have are grand ideals and fancy ideas which they have never tested. It is even more surprising that the proponents of Marxism are usually quite educated. It was also refreshing to see the dispassionate discussion of the place of violence in the world’s political and social systems. Pareto asserts that Marxists find the ideology appealing not because it makes sense but because it reinforces what they already believe. It is the same in the US and other democracies. Most Republicans and Democrats in the US are not convinced by rationale: they are swayed by emotion and allegiance. People gravitate towards ideas they are already comfortable with whether they make sense or not. Secondly, I agree that violence has been an essential part of statecraft even in liberal nations which swear by the use of democracy and civil discourse.
