rhetorical analysis essay

Rhetorical Analysis Essay Assignment (Major Essay #3) Major Essay #3: Rhetorical Analysis For the third essay, you will be analyzing a non-fiction reading based on style and overall message/argument. You will need to develop an argument/claim based on the success (or failure) or the writing and be able to discuss several major style devices and rhetorical/persuasive appeals that the author used. See the readings/handouts folder for information about how to organize and write the rhetorical analysis essay (The textbook doesn't contain examples for a non-fiction piece, so the handouts folder is important).  You will get to select a non-fiction piece to analyze (an essay from the Norton reader or a speech from a link below).  You will write a 3-5 page essay using MLA formatting. No outside research or sources are needed. A works cited page should be given for the non-fiction article/speech you are analyzing. Quotations from the article/speech are expected within body paragraphs. The essay should be written in 3rd person point of view. The conclusion should end with an ah-ha by giving a final point to the analysis--what does the reader learn from reading your analysis of the non-fiction selection?  A final draft is due at the end of week 6. Non-Fiction pieces to select from to analyze for essay #3:  Famous Speeches that changed the world: I have chosen to do I have A Dream" By Martin Luther King off of this website given. My argument for this essay is- Martin Luther King is the most noticible activist of the civil rights movement.
