This paper talks entirely about my family and the health issues related to the family as well. I was born in the year 1995 in Virginia, however, my ancestral family arrived in the United States during the colonial period according to my family’s background information on the lineage and growth of the family at large. Any African American family is a constitution of the great-grandparents who were totally or partially of the black racial group. In the ancient days, the African American were discriminated and the common law of the land usually oppressed them. My family rose from this era and has grown substantially to this present day. It also promotes love, peace and harmony in the entire family. Family is regarded as the basic unit of the society.

It is known to be the divine building block of society because it gives rise to the people who make up the society. To create a reliable society, the health status of the families should be well monitored to ensure that the members of the family are safe and free from ailments. My family has been on the move to maintaining health practices which helps my fellow family members enjoy several health benefits. Depression is a complex disease which some of my family members suffer. Causes of depression may include stress and fatigue, substance abuse, serious illness and other personal problems. On the other hand, asthma is regarded to be a combination of environmental and genetic factors. Asthma is triggered by allergens such as scent, dust and some foods.

Air pollutants and irritants such as smoke, respiratory infections, cold air, strong emotions and stress also cause asthma. According to the latest research review by Gold and Wright illustrations display an outline of infant asthma risk in the United States established on socioeconomic and racism. It shows that black children who live in built-up areas and those who live in poor backgrounds got a major risk of asthma and upper disease indisposition compared to the whites. Asthma incidence, mortality and admission incidences are known to be higher for the African American people than the whites. Researches have shown that African American families which have fewer incomes, their children have two times the danger of having asthma than the whites. Asthma is a complex disease which is hard to cure, however, preventive measures can be taken to curb the disease.

All families have roles and responsibilities for both men and women. Traditionally, the role of a man is to bread in the family and that of a woman is to take care of the children back at home. However, in the recent generations, both men and women take active roles in commerce and child-upbringing. Basically, the roles of men vary from one to another. Men are providers in terms of emotional, spiritual, financial, physical and mental well-being of the family. Family interactions are common in my family especially due to family gatherings, occasions and during every New Year festive. Family come-together helps us interact with other family members who are usually away from us. This helps create a stronger bond between the family members.
