The phrase EDI stands for the Electronic Data Interchange. The EDI basics (2016) defines EDI as a “computer-to-computer” sharing of business documents in a standard electronic format amongst the business associates. In this case, the rules pertaining to a particular healthcare administrative operations, such as eligibility, remittances, claims, and claims status responses or requests, if sent electronically (Basics, 2016). The relationship between all these standards is that for a healthcare professional to use EHR, he or she has to comply with HIPAA that is, using the new EDI rules and regulations.

In this case, healthcare organizations such as Tennessee Medical Center which coordinate administrative information with EHR clinical data will benefit significantly by not only reducing the cost of operation but also increase the efficiency of their healthcare services in the region and that is how these systems are related. Moreover, for a healthcare organization to improve the quality of care services on patients and reduce the cost of operation, Tennessee Medical Center must comply with the coding systems and how HIPAA wants us to prepare and send our electronic health information and hence, this will facilitate the speed of insurance reimbursement.
