Efficient recruitment, selection and promotion of employees in the organization leads to its overall development in various sectors. Throughout the years, public sectors have faced stiff competition from the private sectors. This is one of the challenges facing the public sectors and thus managers are required to make appropriate decisions in the recruitment, selection and promotion of its employees. This essay shall discuss the recruitment, selection and promotion processes in the public sector. Recruitment and Selection of Employees Recruitment and selection are the most important processes performed by managers in an organization to provide employment opportunities for job applicants. These factors may either positively or negatively influence the whole process of employment in the organization (Townley, 2014). These factors are mainly grouped into two, that is, external and internal factors.

External factors are those factors which affect an organization from the outside, for example, supply and demand, the political image of the company, the rate of unemployment among others. These factors affect the decision process of managers during the process of recruitment and selection of employees in the firm. The managers should be well conversant with the external factors. Promotion of Employees Promotion is the process by which employees undergo advancement from a given position in a job to another. The advancement is always characterized by a high amount of salary, greater level in terms of the title of the job and higher responsibilities (Gould‐Williams et al. Promotion is always done for the most hardworking individuals in the organization. These individuals should show outstanding abilities as compared to their colleagues in the workplace.
