The duo has been on big game hunting when they eventually emerge at an island; "OFF THERE to the right--somewhere--is a large island," said Whitney. " It's rather a mystery--" "What island is it?" Rainsford asked. Then Whitney replies back, "The old charts call it `Ship-Trap Island,"' Whitney replied. " A suggestive name, isn't it? Sailors have a curious dread of the place. I don't know why. He is later awakened by the staccato of guns. He then climbs on the rail of his yacht and as his smoking gun falls off, he falls overboard, and realizes he cannot get back to his yacht but swim to the “Ship-Trap Island. ” There he finds Zaroff the hunter of human beings and his servant Ivan.
