Students name: Teachers name: Course title: Date: Research Report Summary In his article “Framing the issues: UC Berkeley professor George Lakoff tells how conservatives use language to dominate politics ” Powell Bonnie dissects Professor George Lakoff’s guess that conservatives continue to dominate the victories in the United States politics due to their choice of language and because of how they carefully communicate their ideas (Powel 1). Being that conservatives fully understand how to communicate and being that they already have successful think tanks Lakoff and 7 faculty members from Berkley and UC Davis opted to start the Rock Ridge institute in 2002. The institute is aimed at helping progressives understand how to pass their message across through unearthing progressive central ideas and framing them based on moral perspectives. In an interview with Bonnie Powell Professor Lakoff further helps progressives understand why they keep getting it wrong while conservatives keep United States victories. This insight dives into what language framing is and how it can be utilized to communicate ideas. It also dissects into think tanks by both the conservatives and the progressives to show why conservative think tanks seem to succeed more than the progressive think tanks due to their implementation that depends on their on their own value systems. Further the interview provides a reader with actual examples of language that can easily pass the wrong idea to the intended audience. Lastly the article shows that traditional liberalism can be ineffective in that truthfulness without tact or truthfulness without proper communication fails to influence the intended outcomes. With this readers get an insight on how to use language to influence politics.
