Technology is one of the most important tool today and its existence is paramount to human existence. It is used in all sectors including communication, transport and education among other integral sectors. The technology in information systems has raised numerous ethical and social issues. Democracy in the country has resulted in developments of lobby groups which highly recommend observance of ethics in dealing with the information systems. This environment has resulted to upcoming legal battles challenging the upcoming technology due to ethical issues (Rogerson, Miller, & Sunrise, 2017). The concealment of an individual’s personal information is a key ethical issue in information systems. What personal information should be hidden from the public? Emergence of social media has made it easier to transmit information from one person to another.

Information once leaked to just one person can be transmitted to a huge number of individuals in seconds. This information is copied and sometime manipulated. The easement in transmitting information raises the ethical issue of the information rights and obligations. These measures include encryption of files to protect them from hacking. Secondly storing information in hard copies instead of using cloud services can protect the privacy of the information (Casalino, 2008). Cloud services can be accessed by any individual therefore eliminating information privacy. In order to safeguard private information the individual should avoid updating real information on such social network sites like Facebook since this provides an opportunity for identity thieves to steal your information. The individual should also avoid using internet sites which require the exact location information.
